Off the Crit - Ep 1 - Unbound with Lance and Freddy of L39ION of LA

This year we’re following the formidable riders that make up L39ION of Los Angeles as they work on and off the bike to change the future of the sport. In the first episode at Unbound, we explore the unlikely paths Lance Haidet and Freddy Ovett have taken to find themselves on the team and how that translates into the way they approach their racing.

FREDDY OVETT

“I’ve never been on a team where I just feel so relaxed and not stressed about doing my job properly. And funnily enough, that’s the best environment to do your job properly.”

Born in England and raised in Australia, Freddy ran competitively in college at University of Oregon and switched to cycling after rehab from an injury introduced him to the sport. He placed 2nd in the 2022 UCI Esports World Championships on Zwift.

LANCE HAIDET

“We [L39ION] do a great job of trying to make the bicycle something that everyone can enjoy. I think the bike is just a powerful tool to show people the world around them.”

Hailing from San Luis Obispo, California, Lance grew up playing soccer and ripping mountain bike trails with his dad. He won both Road and Cyclocross U-23 U.S. Championships, all while pursuing a mechanical engineering degree from Cal Poly.
